Volunteer Opportunities at the Corner Book Shop

The Corner Book Shop is staffed by members of the Bellevue Friends of the Library. The books we sell are donated/used books and the profits allow us to purchase extra equipment for the library and to fund programming.

New volunteers must become members of the Friends, have excellent verbal skills and the ability to work with the public and other volunteers in a friendly helpful manner. All volunteers first train to work in the Marking Room where books are pirced. After becoming comfortable with this job they may also train to work in the Shop.

Working in the Marking Room Volunteers unpack, assess, price and organize books. Marking Room volunteers also help restock shelves in the Shop. Two to three hour shifts are assigned to coincide with Shop hours. Volunteers generally work two shifts per month.

Working in the Shop Volunteers open the Shop, ring up customer sales on the cash register, straighten and restock shelves, close the Shop and close out the cash register. Volunteers are asked to work at least two shifts per month. Although we like to have two volunteers for each shift, often that is not possible. Therefore, shop volunteers are expected to be able to “run” the shop on their own after appropriate training. All volunteers are trained in the Marking Room before being considered for the Shop.

To join the Friends, please download or print a Membership form. There are boxes to check off for areas of interest and places to volunteer. You may mail the form to the library or stop in to the Shop to drop it off.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Bellevue Friends of the Library!
